Todd Post, 92nd & Beloit Rd.
NEXT GET TOGETHER- By Wray Young
Get ready for a fun filled afternoon of entertainment as comedian Chris Reilly takes the stage in a performance that is sure to tickle your funny bone. Chris’ full time job on the Milwaukee Police Department offers him a ton of humorous material, having worked in several Districts and the Jail. Although our jobs on the MPD consisted mostly of important and very serious work, we have all had many days and nights interacting with “unique” citizens that had us in tears with laughter. In addition to all the police humor, Chris will really get us going with all the funny things we experience in our everyday life. Can someone say Jerry Seinfeld? Chris has performed at Jokers Comedy Club, Potawatomi Casino, comedy clubs in Illinois and nightclubs in the Milwaukee area. So join us for a fun filled afternoon with all your ole’ MPD buddies- food, adult beverages, & great entertainment! If you find a neat little door prize hiding in your basement or attic, please wrap it up and bring it along!
As usual desserts and door prizes are appreciated !!

*************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** FIREFIGHTERS SLAM COPS ON THE LANES
The 32nd Annual Milwaukee Police and Fire Bowling Match ended up with the firedogs winning over the cops by a score of 143-97 at AMF Bowlero on March 4. The Red Team got off to a big start by taking the first match 37-19 and that set the tone for the rest of the day. The Fire Department continues to lead the series 19-13. MPD did get the high series of the match from Doug Knueppel who fired a 277, 223 and 279 for a nice 779 series. #7's Tim Meinecke also rolled a 279 so he took the high game award. As for the MRPA members who made the cut, Tom Flock led the retirees with games of 194, 192 and 266 for a fine 652 series. Pete Wreczycki, who came in as an alternate, fired a 586 while Jack Bruss and Terry Reed both had 579. Carl Karwacki added a 570, Tom Budnik a 568, Dave Aguilar had 537, George Hawn had 508 and John Eberhardy had a 490. Thanks to all of the retirees who came out to bowl this year. Next year's match will be at Classic Lanes in Greenfield on Thursday, March 3, 2011.

Carrying Concealed firearm – Update – 2-01-10
The H.R.218 federal bill, which allows qualified retired law enforcement officers to carry a concealed firearm, was signed into law by Pres. George Bush on July 22nd, 2004. The Milwaukee Police Dept., through Capt. Gary Gacek & Det. Carol Starr, have put together an S.O.P. to certify qualified retired Milwaukee Police Officers so that they may legally carry a concealed firearm per H.R.218. In order for this certification process to be enacted, it must first be approved by the City of Milwaukee Fire & Police Commission.
On Friday, January 29th, I spoke with Mike Tobin, the Executive Director of the Fire & Police Commission re. the status of this issue. He stated to me that he had received the S.O.P. developed by the MPD and was reviewing it at this time. He stated that his office had done a survey late in 2008 of other agencies that had adopted certification procedures. These agencies included Dane Co. Sheriff’s Dept, the City of Madison Police Dept., Ozaukee Co. Sheriff’s Dept., Racine Co. Sheriff’s Dept., Waukesha Co. Sheriff’s Dept. and others. All of these agencies have certified numerous retired law enforcement officers over the past several years. He stated to me that his office is reviewing those certification procedures to determine what significant issues have arisen over the years, in an effort to ensure that the Milwaukee certification process has no adverse legal implications.
Mr. Tobin stated that currently, he has no time line as to when the certification process will be completed.
All future developments regarding this issue will be immediately posted on this website.

NOTE from Sally
I received the following e-mail so am passing it along:
"I just called the MPD range. The certification program for our retirees will not involve any training. It will simply be a live-fire certification test. It is still under development but isn’t expected to be ready until late summer or fall."

LAST GET TOGETHER
A big snowfall the night before didn’t stop over 75 members from making it to the social on February 10. The sheepshead table got going early at 10:30AM, and the meeting promptly at 1PM. There was much discussion on the current City plan to amend Chapter 36 switching the control of the funding policies from the Pension Board to the City- very scary. I recommend joining the Milwaukee Retiree Association MRA, which is the only retiree group working to protect our health & pension benefits. You can download a membership form from a link on our website (Links above), & attend the semi annual membership meeting at Serb Hall at 9:30AM on 3-23-10. Keep tabs on all the latest health & pension developments at www.milrpa.com.
Mariam Bautch won the $10 attendance prize while $86 went to Jim Bartelak in the 50-50 raffle which netted $86 for the MRPA treasury. Most of the crowd was there to catch up with their buddies after being away for a few months, and also to enjoy an hour of the wonderful music and vocals of professional entertainer Craig Schneider. Once again we were treated to a great lunch from Carole Fisher and her crew. Speaking of Carole, she really puts a lot into our monthly meal and as a token of appreciation, the association presented her with a gold wristwatch. It was doubly nice for her to receive it not only for all she does but she just happened to need a new watch! Talk about timing—Ohh, nice pun!! (see photo page - misc photos)
First-time attendees included Al Salinas, recently retired Captain Anthony Hendricks, recently retired Detective Tom Fischer, Dante LaPorte, Jack Bruss and Jeff Mantz.
Thanks to the people who brought the desserts, two of which we have to mention. One was a huge heart cake from Evie Borhart with chocolate pudding and cherry filling and another was a Kentucky whiskey-pecan pie courtesy of Sue Lazaris, fiancée of Tom Fischer.
We also celebrated Larry Goulet’s 82nd birthday and there was a story being told about Dick “Rabbit” Retzer and his claim to fame as having the fastest chair on wheels when the new District #6 opened in the late 1980’s.

HELP SAVE THE 1935 PADDY WAGON
In 1941 the Milwaukee Police Post 415 of the American Legion was given ownership of a 1935 Paddy wagon which was used by the MPD from 1935 to 1941. For the past 68 years the wagon has been serving the greater Milwaukee area and has served the community in various parades, car shows, and civic functions. The wagon has been seen in parades in many cities and has carried many politicians and celebrities. After 74 years of service to the coummunity, the wagon is in desperate need of rejuvenation. It is estimated that repairs will cost up to $10,000 to keep the wagon running for years to come. Any donation would be greatly appreciated and with your tax dedcutible donation you'll receive a beautiful wagon pin. For further information contact Commander Fred Haas at 262-246-5917 or send your donation to: Milwaukee Police Post 415 Wagon Fund, P.O. Box 1491, Milwaukee, WI 53201-1491.
